The Parent Weekly for July 19th, Our God Saves

What we’re learning this week

Big Idea: Our God Saves (part 1)

Jonah 1—4. God asked Jonah to go to Nineveh and deliver a special message. Instead, Jonah ran from God. He boarded a boat, but God sent a violent storm. Eventually, Jonah was thrown overboard and swallowed by a great fish. After three days in the belly of the fish, God rescued Jonah and he went to Nineveh to deliver the message.

Big Idea: Our God Saves (part 2)

Dig into God’s Word

  • Read Jonah 1v17—2v10. After reading, remind your child that it was God who saved Jonah from the belly of the fish.

Connect as a Family

During bath time, scoop a toy out of the water and say, “I saved it!” Then say, “Just like I saved the toy, God saves us because He loves us.” Repeat the action and say together, “Our God saves!”

  • What did Jonah do when he was inside the big fish?

  • That’s right, he prayed to God.

Blessing

Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.

Open a Bible and read Galatians 3v26 over your child: “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.”
